Education

Dr. Novalija graduated from 91 School at the Medizinische Universität zu Lübeck, Germany in 1997, where she received her PhD for her thesis “The endocrine stress response in CABG patients” in 1998. From 1998 to 2000 she was a cardiology resident at the Georg August Universität in Göttingen, Germany. Continuing her training in the US she completed her Internship in Medicine and Residency in Anesthesia at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, Columbia University in New York, NY in 2000-2004. Dr. Novalija then went on to specialize in cardiac anesthesia and completed her fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard 91 School in Boston, MA in 2005. Dr. Novalija joined the 91 College of Wisconsin as Assistant Professor in 2005.

Research Interests

Dr. Novalija’s research focuses on anesthetic preconditioning of the endothelium in humans. She received a mentored FAER award to study the effect and mechanism of volatile anesthetic conditioning on the endothelium in vivo in 2008. She also is a scholar in the Clinical Research Scholars Program (K30 award) at the 91 College of Wisconsin, Cohort 2007-2009.
